It is the origin story of the royal family of Mirkwood; complete with all the battles of the First Age.

Part I is the story of Orothôn, the father of the future Oropher, the future first Elvenking of Eryn Galen (aka Mirkwood). Orothôn awakens at Lake Cuiviénen (Quendi: Water of Awakening; Nen Echui in Sindarin) beneath the stars in the new world known as Endóre/Middle Earth. He meets his future wife Mîrwen, the daughter of Elmo (brother of Elwë and Olwë). Only Olwë makes it to Eldamar. Elwë falls in love with the Maiar Melian and begins his reign over Doriath as Elu Thingol. 

Part II is the story of Oropher, the father of Thranduil. He would leave Menegroth (Doriath) to find his kingdom in the Rhovanion, where he becomes the King of the Silvans. He would later die at Dagorlad during the War of the Last Alliance, leaving his kingdom to his son, Thranduil.
