It's been two months since the remaining 200 immunes left through the flat trans to the untouched part of the earth. Yet something is missing; Newt knows that he won't ever be able to blank out the pain of his friend's deaths, but there's something else. 

When Marley turns up, Newt knows she's trouble - how has someone else got through the flat trans? Can cranks get through? With their new world in jeopardy, for Newt it is a battle with his head and heart.

The plot thickens as a Flat Trans opens up. Where does it go? Who set it up? 

It seems like Marley must be the key, but she's got enough on her plate. Unwilling to open up, she makes a rash decision, which leads to a  horrific twist.

The battle is not over yet.

They try to escape the grasp of WICKED as they make their way through the Scorch in search of the Right Arm. Cara struggles with personal issues and traumas that have been brought back along with her memories. Newt tries to hold her hand every step of the way. When will Thomas figure out his feelings for the boy, his world?
