Story is set in 1958, not as a flashback but as a contemporary tale.

Without warning, the Earth is visited by alien spacecraft. The entire planet goes instantly into shock-- who are they and what do they want? In the panic over their arrival, tremendous numbers of people are killed as everyone runs for cover. An hour later, huge numbers of alien troops flood the cities and within an hour after that, there is an alien on every street corner! And then-- nothing happens!

For a couple of days, no one ventures out. The phones work, so people talk about their experiences. No one has actually been harmed by the aliens! More days pass and some people are seen venturing out. Mostly for food! The aliens do nothing. They are not motionless, they just do nothing! On the 5th day, shops open. On the 6th day, a few taxis are seen picking people up!

The 7th day. Many people are out. Things are getting back to normal, almost like the aliens don't exist. And then... There is a message! It comes over every radio and television. And over the phone!

And you'll have to read the book to find out what they said. AND-- what happens next is like SCIENCE FICTION!

Bright Lights & Dark Secrets: A Sci-Fi Anthology

11 parts Ongoing Mature

Six stories. Six situations. Six dark secrets. Colorful casts. Captivating worlds. Crazy conclusions. Humanity rises and falls. Some folks set the world on fire, others burn, many don't care what they do as long as something more powerful tells them what's right or wrong. The question is whether it is in our nature to defy our nature, whether it is a good thing, or whether we should know when to stop... Available stories include: * DUPES: Clones vs. cannibals: who will win?! * THE DEUS ISLANDS: A prison ship on its way to a penal colony is jeopardized by the presence of a sinister supernatural entity. * SEEKING SENSATION (ONGOING): A young woman searching for her missing sister becomes acquainted with (and suspicious of) the charismatic employee of a social media platform that allows users to relive other people's memories. If you are a fan of dark sci-fi anthologies such as Black Mirror and Love Death + Robots, then this is the book for you!
