Sylvia helped establish The Defenders years ago as a place for survivors to band together and protect one another. Under her leadership as Head Defender alongside her husband William, they had transformed an abandoned factory into a thriving safe haven.
But their isolation could not last forever. When Negan and the Saviors discovered The Defenders, he made clear he expected tribute in exchange for "protection". Faced with overwhelming numbers, Sylvia had no choice but to comply for now.
As supplies dwindled under Negan's extortion, Sylvia grew closer to Simon, Negan's most reasonable lieutenant. While Negan grew more volatile, Simon offered quiet counsel. Sylvia saw in him flickers of humanity amid the Saviors' brutality.
But falling for the enemy would endanger her people. With William, she strategized how to turn Simon against his leader. If they could sow discord in Negan's ranks, it may weaken his control over The Defenders.
When Negan's twisted obsession culminated in violence, Sylvia realized they had run out of options. It was time for The Defenders to fight back, with Simon's help. But could she trust her heart to the man fighting on both sides of this war for their home?
