Dean has fallen in to his usual holiday funk ,wanting to ignore the festive holidays. His grumpier than normal mood doesn't go unnoticed by castiel. Sam is contacted by some old friends and unhappy with their usual Wincher style of unfestive christmas decide to gate crash their plans.
Castiel after being on earth for years now still doesn't really understand the tradition outside of the bothers moody indifference , extra beers and throwing trash on the mini potted tree, but their guests plan to enlighten him.
Sam sees this as his chance to give back to his brother for the crapy Christmas's growing up by helping him with the angle not on the tree.
* au were some of the characters didn't die but is still in the supernatural world , cas' grace is fading , his powers are much weaker and he needs to sleep to recover what little grace he has *

With Castiel gone Dean doesn't eat or sleep he just drinks and prays wondering if Cas can hear him. Day and night he checks the newspapers and police reports from every city, and county in the US for any sign of the trench coat angel. With no leads things become even more bleaker. Dean throws himself down a hole, and Sam is becoming increasingly worried about about Dean so he seeks out help from from another angel to see if they know anything about the whereabouts of Castiel. Castiel is lost he doesn't know where he is or who he is. He just goes where his feet take him. He never eats or sleeps but he doesn't he have to, he doesn't know why he doesn't eat and it doesn't bother him much cause it would just slow him down. He remembers nothing about Sam or Dean or even himself for that matter, but something is itching at the wall in the back of his head trying to break through, it wants to get out but can't. He gets fragments of things every so often but they are of pain and torture and a redhead he doesn't know the name of. One day a pleasant memory comes through the cracks in his wall he can't place where it came from. The only thing he knows is he needs to find the man with the stunning green eyes.
