nina salvador and her mother, mariah moved away from san fransico, california. why? because nina's dad loathes her existence. the woman on the side of mariah's family came from a long line of witches. however, it would skip every other generation. which meant, nina's mom didn't get it but nina's grandmother did. which meant nina had the gift; but dad wasn't having it. nina's dad didn't even know about this family line. when mariah finally told him, he was furious. so instead of trying to adjust to this new reality about nina and what she would be doing as she grows into the witch she will become, he kicks out nina telling her that he wasn't going to have a witch in the family. 

mariah stood strong beside her daughter, ending with both of them leaving and moving away. nina hated how her dad reacted, how her dad just looked at her like he didn't even know who she was. as if the little girl that he raised was suddenly gone. well the little girl he decided to kick out of his house. 

now nina and mariah live in smallville, where things seem far from normal.
