Katinka Afflerbach never planned on entering the military; she wasn't meant to be a fighter. Yet here she is dressed in uniform with a pistol on her hip, residing on a classified base on the opposite side of the world from home. She cannot trust anyone; she cannot let her guard down for a moment. Even if it weren't for the male soldiers surrounding her, or the dangerous animals in the wilderness--she will never be safe again. No one can learn the truth about her, or they will all die. The infamous Simon "Ghost" Riley has returned to Task Force 141 as First Lieutenant, and something's changed within him. According to the warnings, he's angrier than usual, ready to strike at the first opportunity. Something from his last operation has changed him forever. And despite her best attempts at maintaining the status quo, he's caught her eye. And she's certainly caught his.

My name is Ruth Costa and I am twelve years old. I was abused and traumatized because of my past, which led me to find the one of the most dangerous things in Romania, all because I broke into an "abandoned" apartment for food. The Winter Soldier stared at me from the doorway, plums in a clear plastic bag in his gloved hands. I held his candy bars and other fruits I found in the fridge. We both stared at each other. I don't know if I should run, give them back, or start bawling, because I feel that all three of those options were pretty good. COMPLETED (In editing to fix grammatical mistakes)
