She didn't want to marry Guildford and got tortured in the movie but honestly I can't blame Guildford, he was also forced to marry her cause his father envisaged power. What if King Edward VI never died and Queen Jane Grey was still his wife and was crowned as queen of Britain.

Edward and Jane were introverted towards each other but this shows that they might be the perfect royal match which might have an inseparable connection towards each other and fall in true love.

Henry VIII decides to abdicate the throne so his only legitimate son, King Edward VI, could ascend it, which caused jealousy amongst Henry's daughters, Mary and Elizabeth but would be able to receive the throne on a condition that Edward wouldn't have any children within his lifetime. With that target, they would keep an eye on Edward and Jane as well as their romantic relations.

Edward made three vows for himself which displeased his aging father who's making a trying attempt to have a child with his late wife, Catherine Parr and mistress, Bertha Kensington. He promised that he'd be a loyal husband and won't not take mistresses before and after Jane's death, will promise to not pressurize Jane to give him a male heir, thinking about his mother's death because of him, and lastly, allow female reagents to rule the country.


Not long after or about two months after Edward and Jane's marriage, the news of their future child and heir/heiress to the throne is known to the whole kingdom. This angered Mary and Elizabeth, Edward's step sisters, who try multiple attempts to give Jane a miscarriage.
