No one would really approve, mostly because they were Candor colours along with the fact it's not... welcoming enough. I never understood Amity, not because of the kindness and the peacefulness; well, mostly the peacefulness. Whenever it should come down to defending ourselves or walking away. We walked away. Eric doesn't know how to react because no one has ever tried to get close to him before so how should he react? Will he react in a good or bad way?
