When they meet with the other princesses, Celestia notices how tired Twilight and her friends look after their journey and sends all eight of them off to bed. Later that night, a cloaked unicorn sneaks into the castle and steals Twilight's crown. The next morning, Princess Celestia identifies the thief as Sunset Shimmer, her former student. The princesses explain that the mirror from which Sunset Shimmer escaped is a gateway to an alternate world and task Twilight with going into this other world to retrieve her crown. Little does she know, she will encounter her friends once again. What adventures await Twilight in this alternate world? Of course, the 12 sisters are quick to figure out the truth, just as Randolph brings in his cousin, Duchess Rowena, to turn them into "proper princesses." Rowena takes away everything the girls love. But one night, they all uncover a magical world, where they can dance to their hearts content. Starlight finds herself falling in love with a fantastical movie world she doesn't want to leave. But like with the golden pavilion, all good things had to reach an ending. And in the case of the movie, they have to stop Rowena before she poisons Randolph and takes over the kingdom.
