Maki didnt cry that night. That night, that seemed to play on repeat. Over and over again until it was all she could see, all she could hear. It was her final straw. She would leave it all behind, forget everything and everyone. That was a promise.
"Sure, kid, you wanna run away." Toji inhales deeply before taking another hit of his cigarette.
'I-I do." Maki whispers. "I have to."
He laughs at her, his voice raspy like he were an old man. "I'll tell you what, kid, I got a place, sure."
"I'll go anywhere."
"Oh, I know you will. Anyway, I was thinking." He smiles at her, a smile like she's never seen from her bleak uncle. "I got a friend. A Self-serving winch, but she owes me-." He coughs loudly, "You will stay with her in Tohoku. It won't cost money, but you'll pay her back somehow."
...
Maki thinks she'll never feel genuine emotion again. She is far from home in a place riddled with violence and gangs and frankly alone. Mak, all too guarded and not trusting at all meets Kugisaki who seems to make her smile just a little too hard. Actually, Maki finds herself doing a lot of things she said she wouldn't do because of her.
