A witch and a prince find themselves drawn together, but her past and his future may pull them apart.
Wren returned to her home kingdom of Osterwitten after fleeing Aurelius, where she was studying magic under another witch. Her circumstances were dire, but since then she has built a comfortable and quiet life in the woods with her two magpie familiars and a grumpy old mule.
Prince Oliver has tried to flee his duties for most of his life. He has finally accepted some of his responsibilities as the second prince of Osterwitten, but he wishes for calm. His future is laid out, and still he searches for peace.
When the two find themselves crossing paths more than once, they find the lines between their very different lives blurred. But Wren's past, and all the things she has fled throughout her life, return one-by-one. Oliver's future, and all the expectations placed upon him due to his station, threaten any calm he can find in the forest.
Both find themselves confronting the parts of themselves and their lives that they had avoided while traveling paths that seem to tangle like limbs of the Tree.
