De levens van de mensen in Syrian worden gestuurd door de drie manen. De lijnen die het maanlicht in hun huid brand bepalen wat voor een beroep ze uitoefenen, met wie ze trouwen en welke dingen ze meemaken. Iedereen heeft een lotsbestemming. Iedereen behalve Naele.

De lijnen op de huid van de medicijnvrouw zijn vreemd en onleesbaar. Dus besluit ze haar eigen leven te bepalen. Maar tegen de wil van de manen ingaan heeft een grote prijs.
