Princess Aurelia Laurent has wanted to explore since she was a child, the stories of pirates and adventurers that her mother told her fueling her love for the outside world. She has grown up wanting to explore and see the world of the Unbound Archipelago before she finally settles down to become queen, wanting just a touch of freedom before the throne keeps her in Khausta forever.
When discussions of arranged marriages and wedding ceremonies is brought up and taken seriously by Aurelia's parents, she realizes that it's now or never.
She joins up with a crew of pirates, headed by the mysterious and dark Captain Kaito Wells, but as their adventures take turn after dangerous turn, Aurelia realizes this is the sort of life she wants.
When the world begins to fall apart, Aurelia has a choice to make. Become queen of Khausta as she had always meant to? Or turn her back on the future she'd always seen for herself and dive into the deep, leaving behind the only life she'd known?
