Mera comes to land to find Arthur. She needed him to come back to Atlantis to challenge Orm for the throne before it's too late. If Orm becomes king, then land will be screwed. She had hope though... If Arthur takes the throne. 

They have a long journey ahead of them and over time they will fall in love after she gains his trust. With the love they have for each other they can overcome anything that comes their way.
