The story follows Kousei Arima, a child prodigy who became a renowned pianist at a young age but lost his ability to hear the pitch of notes after his mother's sudden death. This trauma caused Kousei to withdraw from music and society altogether.

One day, Kousei meets a free-spirited violinist named Kaori Miyazono, who encourages him to rediscover his love for music. However, Kaori's own health issues threaten to derail her career and their relationship. As Kousei tries to help Kaori overcome her struggles, he also learns to confront his own fears and find a new sense of purpose in life."
