A coming-of-age story about a snake girl called Kay and her shape-shifting friend who accidentally uncover a conspiracy and wind up changing the world.

*****

Kay is a sarcastic, ordinary high school girl who enjoys her weekends and doesn't think much about anything. Kay is also a green-skinned, reptilian-human variant. In her world, all children born on any given day look the same, all over the world. Nobody knows why. There are extreme mutations: tentacles, wings, fur, horns, and abilities to leap tall buildings or breathe fire. That's just how it's always been and Kay thinks nothing of it, until she meets Cal: a shape-shifter who is on the run and needs her help to uncover what's really going on.

"They took my sister. Now I'm taking her back." Seventeen years ago, humans started developing supernatural abilities. Comic books came true as the first person flew, created fire, mind-read. The world entered a new age where people who could do special things were revered and admired. That all changed when one man lost control of his power and unleashed a huge explosion in a crowded shopping centre, killing over a thousand others. A series of fights involving superhumans broke out, resulting in the destruction of multiple cities and hundreds upon hundreds of further lives lost. The government began hunting down those extraordinary people with the assistance of a specialised unit: trained in recognising different abilities. Suddenly powers became something scary, uncontrollable and dangerous, that nobody wanted to own up to having. Seventeen years after the Explosion, Amelie Rose Carmichael is the daughter of the man who is in charge of hunting down and imprisoning these people. She enjoys a comfortable life, protected from any threats against her. But when Amelie develops an ability without warning, she must try to keep it hidden from her family, her friends, and above all her father. Can she keep a secret? Will she use her powers to help the rebel organisation that has approached her? And what secrets are the people around her hiding? [2023 Wattys Shortlist, 2023 Amby Awards winner, Featured 4 times in Wattpad Picks lists] Kaleth has worked as an agent of Luxarx for years. What the average person might see as an exciting, dangerous job has become the routine, and the only thing that fazes Kaleth now is that his habit of wearing suits everywhere is somehow still a thing his teammates tease him over. But that's all about to change. An encounter with one unexpectedly peaceful (and cute) terrorist soldier brings everything he thought he knew into question. If not all Umbra are dangerous criminals, what else does Luxarx get wrong? As he investigates, Kaleth stumbles onto a conspiracy that doesn't just concern the agency, but also his government, and the whole world. There are monsters hiding in plain sight, secretly in charge of everything since the very beginning - the long-forgotten dragon-gods with supernatural abilities. And they are definitely not as mythological as everyone thought. Now branded traitors, can Kaleth and his team fight back against the government they once served, and stop a world war before it can start? --------------------------- [word count: ≈ 90 000 words] • Book 1 - The Return of the Gods • Book 2 - The Return to Irithara • Book 3 - The Return of the Lifebringer • Book 4 - The Aperios [Featured in Wattpad Picks lists: 'Extraordinary Realms ✨' in December 2023, 'Reading Radar' in January 2024, 'Celebrating Wattpad Hits' in February 2024, and Valiant Heroes 🏰✨🏔 in June 2024, and also on the @fantasy profile]
