Nico di Angelo was one of /those/ kids. The kind with no friends. The kind that no one likes. The kind that is beaten every single school day but no one bothers to help.
It's not like it was a new thing. It all started when he was only eight, his mom died in a car crash. His sister died two years later when a car hit her while she was riding her bike to the park. Everyone blamed Nico for their deaths expect for his step-sister and his absent father. He even blamed himself for the deaths. He thought no one could ever bring him out of the deep pit of dark depression he fell in, but one blonde-hair boy was going to change that.

After everything horrible that has happened to him, he's slowly getting better with the help of Will and his friends. Will Solace finally got the boy of his dreams. The boy he had a crush on since he was 11 years old. He's starting to realize that he isn't as useless as he thinks he is, and that he's actually worth something. Everything is going great for a while. But just like it always is for demigods, nothing good ever lasts. The death of Nico's first and closest friend Jason Grace puts a sudden end to the sunshine that currently brightens Nico's life for once. His death triggers a lot of things for him, and shines light on a lot of his unresolved trauma. Will Nico be able to make it through this without his mental stability completely breaking once and for all? Will Nico be able to let people in enough to help him get through it? And what about the mysterious dreams that Nico keeps having of his mom? And who really is this little girl that knows nothing about her past? In this sequel to Out of the Shadows, Nico sees familiar faces and revisits past places, but at least this time he has Will along for the ride.
