What no one knows is that Persephone isn't Demeter's only secret daughter. Long ago, after Persepones birth, Demeter had a love affair with Hades. Which is one of the reasons she was so opposed to Persepones marriage to him. 

Two months after their shared night, Demeter discovered she was to have another baby. This one of death and beauty. The terror she'd face from her peers and from Zues if anyone was to find out. So she'd kept it a secret. Once the child was born, she was so ashamed that she left the child to die in the human realm. She was instantly discovered by the people and thought to be a gift from above. They never thought they could be so wrong.
