In Edo Period, Japan, 14 year old Cadenza Zvhal lives in the Nether also known as a underworld where immortal and undead souls called Shadow Knights live. She and her 12 year old younger brother Laurence have lived there all their lives and also their own family since they are all pure-blooded Shadow knights. They live in the western side of the Nether which focuses all on farming and agriculture and one of the poorest places. Despite this Cadenza doesn't mind the quite farm life and would keep it that way until one day everything changes.

Laurence Zvhal loves adventure and would rather get out other than being stuck working in the fields or doing stuff that involves agriculture. He's also willing to explore no matter what with his friends Dante and Lillian. Not only that but he wants to be one of the greatest guards despite living in the western area. However after he and Dante, and Cadenza stumbled across something that reveals their family's history he realizes that there's more to the Shadow lord than he thought there was.

Terra Saito is a recent guard who came back as a Shadow Knight and is still struggling to accept her fate and life in the Nether itself. However she is willing to do whatever it takes to gain immortality even though it means she might have to kill her former lord however everyone around her says it's worth it. Right?

After the Shadow Lord discovers a dark secret about the Zvhal family, Cadenza, Laurence, and Dante decide to flee the Nether and escape to the overworld as Terra questions if immortality is worth it and makes one of the hardest decisions in her life. What was the secret the Shadow Lord discovered? Will Terra gain immortality? And will Cadenza, Laurence, and Dante adjust to life in the village of Meti? Find out in this mcd fanfiction!
