Rose Frankfurt loses a part of herself after her best friend Bridget falls into a coma after a car accident that was her fault. She finds herself going to every place, and doing everything that reminded her of Bridget, slowly losing herself even more. As time passes, Rose realizes she needs to get her life together and being applying to colleges, but her efforts in school decreased dramatically after the accident. She began to lose hope, until she began seeing Bridget one day, but conscious. However, Rose is the only one that can see her. As Rose's mental health declines more and more after the accident, she begins to develop dark thoughts, and gets the idea to write a story, but have Bridget as the main character, controlling her, and talking to her as she writes a story with a horrifying storyline. Rose writes a full-length story in a truly disturbing manner that no reader could understand, causing the book to become a national headline, landing her offered from universities nationwide. However, no one knows the truth about Rose's condition, and that Bridget has been in a coma the entire time, unconscious. "Control Freak" highlights the disturbing truth of Schizophrenia, and how dark it can be.

Hope Flynn used to love water. She never realized the power of water, or the strength of it until the accident. Now Hope knows just how dangerous water can be. The only reason Juliet is at the exclusive private school is because she's living with her wealthy aunt and uncle. Juliet knows what happened to Eleanor Flynn, most of the world does. The Flynn family are very wealthy and very famous. Even though Juliet and Hope have never spoken, Juliet can tell that Hope is acting weird and she doesn't think it's entirely because Eleanor is dead. When Juliet and Hope are brought together through a class project, Juliet starts to realize that Hope won't be able to start moving on unless she finds out what happened the night her sister died, and why she can't remember it. When the two start investigating, they realize that the truth is pointing to something dark. Almost everyone attending Redwood has secrets, and they'll do what it takes to keep them private. When the truth starts to come out, Hope is left to wonder if she remembers the dreadful night and finds out she had something to do with it, will she ever forgive herself?
