Hopelessly, a young boy wanders through the desolate streets of Eldorium's slums, belonging to nowhere but the dust. He has no recollection of anything - only that he finds himself drawing closer to the preeminent palace each day.

Eldorium is a kingdom of conquered riches, clashing steel and an irrefutable rank of who is ontop and who is below the pyramid. The sand has seen an overflowing amount of bloodshed over all the years this formidable empire has stood.

It all means nothing to him, until he stumbles upon a boy cornered into an alley of the gilded markets. One thing he discovers about himself is his ability to fight, which lands him on his knees before the throne, where the boy he aided turns out to be the prince.

The prince pleads for mercy upon his new friend, for a commoner mingling with a royalty is forbidden, especially a commoner with no records of existence - ever.

The king grants him training to become the prince's personal assassin; a deadly shadow for a powerful sun.

They face the world together. Everyday is spent sweating blood or drawing it from the battles they dive into sword-first, falling even the most impenetrable kingdoms side by side. However, not even the desert can bury the dark secrets of Eldorium, nor can it whisper warnings of the daunting times to come.

And the Gods... well, they see everything. And their rage grows, with Eldorium at the center of it.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are..." Calliope's breath shuddered as she pressed trembling fingers against her wound, trying to stifle the slow, relentless flow of blood. The dark crimson smeared her deep brown skin, glistening in the faint moonlight filtering through the trees. She bit her lip hard enough to draw blood, forcing herself not to cry out, even as the pain in her arm surged with each heartbeat. Her body was coiled in the shadows, hidden among the thick underbrush. The scent of damp earth filled her lungs as she crouched lower, her deep brown eyes flicking toward the faint beam of light where he stalked her. The trail of her blood, leading back to her, was a cruel betrayal-he'd see it soon enough. In the distance, his boots crunched on the gravel path, slow and deliberate, the sound crawling through the silence. His shotgun dragged behind him, the barrel scraping along the stones with a sharp, unsettling screech. His tan skin glowed under the night sky, brown hair falling messily over his forehead, casting shadows over his deep-set brown eyes, eyes that no longer held the warmth she once knew. "Callie, darling..." His voice rang out, taunting. It was a mockery of affection, twisted and sharp. "Come on out. You know you can't hide forever." He scanned the woods, his gaze erratic, desperate. His hands tightened around the shotgun, knuckles white as his eyes flared with hunger, the hunt fueling his madness. The stillness was thick, suffocating, but Calliope could feel the tremor in his voice, the impatience-he was unraveling. She swallowed hard, trying to quiet her heavy breathing, her heart hammering in her chest as he stepped closer, the smell of blood growing stronger around her. If he found her, there would be no telling what he would do. ------------- In which a predator hunts prey.

His eyes bore into me, hot and relentless, a fire I wasn't ready to name, burning my skin. My blade hovered at his throat, the edge biting into his skin with each deliberate step he took. When the blade finally broke the surface, drawing the faintest line of blood, a maddening smirk twisted his lips. "Such a vicious little kitten," he purred, his voice like blood-laced velvet. The sound vibrated through me, sparking a chill along my spine. He took another step, defiant, a predator toying with his prey. "Are you going to kill me, kitten?" My breath caught, but I refused to falter. I tilted my chin upward, matching his intensity with my own. "I will," I spat, my voice low and steady, every syllable a vow. His smirk only widened, his eyes gleaming with dark amusement. "Good," he whispered, leaning closer, pressing against the sword as if daring it to go deeper. "I'm looking forward to it." I knew he was daring me, taunting me... And yet, I couldn't bring myself to move.
