"You can't make me stay here! I will get an emancipation." I yell. Flashbacks of the gun in my hand, the almost-dead boy.

I shudder. A sick feeling settles in my heart.

"I forbid you from going anywhere else. It's safe here, with us," Alexander answers. He is practically fuming.

"Clearly, it's not!"

I stand from the leather chair, backing away to the mahogany door. Pure, hot rage bubbles inside of me.

Never. I will never become one of them.

He begins to rush to me, but I turn on my heel and sprint out, down the hallway, through the house, and to the brick fence surrounding the mansion.

I go up to the black metal gate, slip through the rails, and run out onto the forest-surrounded street.
