Hiccup is a teenager from the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. His progressive views make him a misfit, despite the fact that his father is chief of the clan. Being brought into dragon-fighting training, he endeavors to prove himself as a true Viking. But that all changes when he befriends an injured Night Fury he names Toothless and a young half-dragon he names Val. Now he has a chance to plot a new course for his people's future.

The Chief's wife thinks it's unfair to torture a child like this, but when Stoick lays eyes on this boy, he has other plans. Will he and his dragon escape in time?
