After a series of burglaries that are targetting government and shadow ministers The Office of the Chief Investigator takes over the case the team being led by the new DCI-2. The investigation is conducted jointly with a team from the Metropolitan Police headed by DI Fawcett and SI-4 leading for the Office of the Chief Investigator, (OCI). With a lack of forensic evidence this is a difficult case.
After a discovery by one of the Detective Constables from the MET things take an unexpected turn when one of the Detective Sergeants dies of a cocaine overdose. The net starts to close in on the burgular as the combined team makes progress. But the progress comes at a cost with more murders.
