[ONC Longlist 2024 | A Medusa Retelling.] Sydney 2112. Young men are disappearing without a trace. On the other side of town, an up-and-coming sculptor's works eerily resemble the missing men. Can the Inspector solve the riddle before her son joins the collection? *** Keya Sapkota needs to create artworks for her first sculpture exhibition at the prestigious Museum of Contemporary Arts, but a recent date-gone-wrong has left her a mess. She has no memory of what happened, but a feeling that something horrible transpired that left her with broken lips and bruised body. Keya hides in her loft, chipping away at her marble columns on autopilot. The more she chisels the more lifelike her statues become, ones she can't remember carving, but does she care? She needs exhibits for her show and the strange figures may as well be her pieces. The new Stone2Stone sculpture exhibition at the MCA catches the eye of Inspector Reina, who is desperately searching for her son who disappeared from a nightclub on his twenty-first birthday. Reina can't put her finger on it, but the sculptor, Keya, seems strange. Then there's the eerie marble statues that share their likeness with young men who have recently disappeared. Y/n L/n had always aspired to be like one of the heroes that legends were written about. Unfortunately, no matter how much one desires something, they can't always achieve their wish. So no matter how many times Y/n tries to learn how to fight with a sword, tries to detect his enemies, or works on complicated footwork, he will never be a warrior. For he is blind. Rendered sightless from birth, and he is incapable of being a warrior at any capacity. So, it's a cruel, twisted joke when a Trickster God comes to Y/n in his dreams and tells the boy he's chosen for a divine quest. That quest, you ask? To hunt down and kill one of the most ruthless monsters that terrorizes the coastal town of Aegium. Medusa. However, there is an astounding amount of lack-of-foresight and planning - from everyone, all around (even the author). And just maybe, Y/n can be the hero he's always wanted to be. In an entirely different way, of course. _____ Preview: Not many Greek warriors entered the Gorgon's cave in such a bold, abrasive manner anymore. They especially did not wave their swords in the air wildly about their person and declare: "Why do you think I am here? I've been sent on a godly quest to defeat a tentacle monster!" "Pardon?" the Gorgon asked, surprised into speech by the (h/c) man's words. "Or maybe some kind of serpent. The gods weren't very clear on that part now that I think about it," the strange man continued, his back still turned to Medusa. ...It had been a long while since Medusa has felt this out of his depth. (Just wait until he learns that this man doesn't turn to stone). _____ Ft. Gay Medusa.

"Who's there?" Megara asked, her voice calm but curious. Medusa was stunned into silence. It wasn't fear in Megara's tone-just genuine curiosity. For a moment, Medusa considered fleeing, but something about the priestess's unthreatening demeanor held her in place. When Medusa finally spoke, her voice was hesitant, as if unsure of how to handle this unusual encounter. "You shouldn't be here," she said softly, her tone carrying both a warning and a plea. Megara tilted her head slightly, sensing the tension in the voice. "Forgive me. I didn't mean to intrude," she said, turning her face toward Medusa without hesitation. "I'm gathering herbs for the temple. This garden is... beautiful." Medusa blinked, utterly perplexed. No one had complimented her or anything of hers in so long. "You... you're not afraid?" Medusa asked, her snakes hissing softly in curiosity. Megara smiled faintly. "Why would I be afraid? You sound lonely, not dangerous."
