"Love, (Y/n)? You don't mean that...?" His voice trails off and you see the gears in the mechanism of his mind turn as he realizes what you mean. His heart thumps harder in his chest, betraying his feigned ignorance.

You keep your hand there and without thinking it through, you take his right hand and place it over your chest, where your heart pounds beneath. "What does this tell you?"

"It don't mean nothin'." His voice is lower and only loud enough for you to hear. Is he saying this to lie to himself or to discourage you? Perhaps both.

You hold his hand tightly as it remains over your heart. "Then why don't you take a gamble that it does?"
