This book is a collection of conversations, memories, and interviews about my dad who has run thousands of miles, survived cancer five times, and even survived being run over by a car while cycling. He's traveled with my mother, the family, and alone making record-time on a pilgrimage walk known as, "The Camino." I'll tell his story as best I can from a daughter's perspective and share with you what is has been like to grow up with Wayne Miles as my father..

My Dear Reader Rebecca by philpw99

What will you do, when you have only 5 days left, before a dead-or-alive challenge happens? Rebecca is having a highly risky brain surgery next week. Time is extremely precious for her. Yet she chooses to finish reading a book, which is unfortunately mine. I am a failing writer whose stories go nowhere. There are still two more chapters to write for this book, but I am having a writer's block. I visit her in the hospital, and greatly inspired by her courage under the unfortunate circumstances. However, can I finish the book in time for her? I'll try my best. Once again, my mind flies back to the post-apocalypse world of my fiction, searching for a way to end the book properly... ...... This is an attempt to mix comedy with tragedy. Some content is quite heavy, like cancer, depression, sick patients...etc. So prepare a tissue, just in case. I wrote and posted the first 3 chapters 4 years ago, yet due to my stupidity and insensitivity, I lost a dear friend over this story, which I regretted deeply. The idea was first inspired by another friend, who gave me some first hand experience of a cancer patient. Can't thank her enough. It's totally my fault that this story was delayed for so long. It's simply too good to waste, and not fair for her priceless contribution. There are also various things inspired by different friends online, who once bared their souls to me. Sincerely appreciate their friendship. It has totally 8 chapters. Each one has about 2000 to 3000 words. Disclaimer: Everything here is fake, never happened and completely fabricated by my wild imagination. The story has nothing to do with Wattpad or any website, because seriously, nothing is real here. If someone happens to have a similar experience, that's just coincidence. Copyrights of Becca Franco, Bill Cadogan and "The 100" TV series belongs to The CW Network.

💥💥💥💥 Trigger warning 💥💥💥💥 Abuse Situations and suggestions. Read with caution!! Prologue: Race Against Time The clock was ticking. Cam could hear it in the steady beeping of hospital monitors, in the hushed whispers of nurses moving through the sterile hallways. But most of all, he could feel it-in the desperate, suffocating weight of time slipping away. Emily was sick. The kind of sick that made doctors avoid eye contact, that made people whisper outside the hospital room, that made his wife, Crysta, hold onto their daughter's tiny hand like letting go would make everything worse. The diagnosis had come too fast. One day, Emily was running through the yard, her laughter ringing like music in the air. The next, she was pale, tired, her small body betraying her in ways no child should ever have to endure. A rare form of cancer. Aggressive. Unforgiving. And now, the only hope they had-the only thing standing between Emily and the unthinkable-was Penny. Cam's hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned white. The car's engine roared as he sped down the highway, chasing a ghost of a woman who had barely existed in Emily's life. Penny was a drug addict, a mess, a woman who had abandoned her daughter before she could even say "mama." But somewhere in her broken body, in her ruined veins, was a match. The only match. She was the key to saving Emily's life. But Penny wasn't answering her phone. Penny had disappeared into the underworld she always ran to when things got too real. Cam had to find her, had to drag her back, had to make her see that this time-this time, it wasn't about her mistakes. It was about Emily. The tires screeched as Cam took a hard turn, the desperation in his chest pushing him forward. He didn't have time for Penny's self-destruction. He didn't have time for her excuses. He just needed her blood.

100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. With Iron Guard, the resistance outside the walls, hunting the Purebloods too, will the trial save human race before it's too late? #3 in #dystopianfuture (27.06.2020)
A Different Virus - Laura's Story by CrystalScherer

This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. She loved her parents and life was perfect. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. People started talking about a bad flu that was spreading and sending some into a coma. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? Is this fleeting shadow something that can help her or could this mysterious figure be even more dangerous than the zombies themselves? ---------------------- Ranked #1 Apr 10, 2018 (A huge thank you to all who read and voted!) This story is copyright and built from my own imagination. This book was a special request from someone who helped me a lot. This viewpoint has less action than the original. The cover was made by @All_AboutAssymetry. A huge thanks to her! Copyright September 2016. All Rights Reserved. Readers may not copy, alter, or steal this story. Screw it. I picked up the bottle of whiskey and cashed it. I got into my car and drove until I saw a bridge. I look down at the ocean crashing below. My heart started racing, so I took a deep breath and I sat on the railing. I began to gaze at the full moon. A cold gust of wind blew across my face and made goosebumps form on my forearms. I finally felt at peace, calm and free but the sound of a speeding car behind me jolted me back to reality. Then the events of my stressfuful day rushed on me like a whirl wind and I wanted it all to be over...
