Evie, a human nurse working at a fighting arena called The Pits, dreams of opening her own sanatorium to help children affected by the disease that took her nephew's life. She is solely focused on her goals, until unexpected feelings develop for a certain  tall, broad, green fighter.

Roth, the top-ranked orc fighter in The Pits, has secretly harbored romantic feelings for Evie for years. He has even gone to the extreme of intentionally getting injured in the arena, just to experience her touch and care. To him, the wounds he endures in the arena are not the most painful; the true source of his agony is the fear that Evie might not return his affections.
