I felt the bed dip as he sat down on the other side but I focused solely on my task until I was done. "This is a pillow barrier. Meaning, you don't breach this side of the pillows." I instructed, my voice firm. "What if I don't want anything between us?" Phoenix said in a husky voice, and I risked a glance. Bad choice. His eyes were dark and his gaze was on my lips, to my chest, then back to my lips. "Eyes up here, buddy." I snapped the third time his eyes went down to my chest. All he did was turn off the lights. When it was dark, he whispered," Can't I admire what is mine?" I had no answer, and turned on my side. He sighed. Despite taking two naps today, I was out cold the minute my head hit my pillow. I could only hope that in the morning, the pillow barrier was still there. ***** Adira has a secret, one she would do anything to protect. Lyra Bennett leads a seemingly ordinary life, navigating the treacherous waters of high school, friendships, and family expectations. But beneath the surface of her normal teenage existence lies a secret, a dark and powerful truth: she's a werewolf. Her life is a delicate balancing act, a constant struggle to conceal her lycanthropic nature from the world, a world that would fear and reject her if they knew the truth. Her carefully constructed facade begins to crumble when she encounters Damien, a captivating vampire whose presence ignites a dangerous and forbidden attraction. Their connection is a defiance of ancient animosity, a risky gamble that threatens to expose Lyra's secret and shatter the fragile peace she has worked so hard to maintain. This story delves into Lyra's journey of self-acceptance, her struggle to reconcile her human identity with her primal instincts, and her fight against the prejudice and danger that threaten her and those she loves. The moon's pull is a constant reminder of the power that resides within her, a power she's only beginning to understand, only beginning to control. Their romance is fraught with danger, not only from the ancient hatred between their species but also from those who would exploit Lyra's unique abilities. The world of werewolves and vampires, a world hidden in plain sight, is revealed in all its complexity, its beauty, and its danger. Betrayals, unexpected alliances, and sacrifices are made as Lyra and Damien navigate their forbidden love, their commitment to each other tested at every turn. As Lyra's powers grow, she must confront not only external threats but also the internal turmoil that accompanies her transformation. This is a story about finding love in the most unlikely of places, a story about embracing one's true nature, a story about the power of choice in the face of destiny, and a story that explores the timeless conflict between nature and nurture, instinct and reason, love and fear.
