A blue hedgehog-devil... or devilhog... named Sonic has been living in Windmill Village with his friends Knucks and Tails, even after his caretaker, Uncle Chuck, died of sickness. He lived a normal life there, helping others in the village as he did so. Little did he know, he was a weapon that the government wanted to use.

In the darkness, a black hedgehog was stalking Sonic, watching his every move and preparing to defend him in any way. This hedgehog is known as Shadow, another experiment who escaped years ago. Why was he protecting him?

Though when they found him, he was in a trance (assuming he was sick). Knuckles 'who felt bad' watched over him but unfortunately, he turned his back and Sonic went missing. Everyone was sent on a frantic search. The team entered a beautiful fancy village named Transtopia (owned and lead by (Sonics other old flame) Serena and Camilla) There Knuckles meets their beautiful protector. A blue hedgehog (that bored little resemblance to Queen Aleena) named Shayera Blue Star. Though she looked familiar to Knuckles. This protector was a real fighter. To Knuckles there was something about her that Knuckles couldn't help but see.

"He held the book against his chest as if his life depend on it. He promised, he won't let go of the book. His breath is heavy and ragged, the smoke filling his lungs with painful breaths. Sonic is screwed. He tightly shut his eyes, his ears pinned against his skull as he sees the creature jumping towards him, almost curling himself into a ball, protecting the book instinctively. But when he thought that he would hear his own scream, his ears perk up as an audible squeak and grunt reach them. He peeks one eye out, seeing only smoke from where the monster was a second ago. Sonic's eyes widen and he looks around immediately, startled by the sudden disappearance, his hands slightly shaking. As he looks up at a roof, he notices a shadow, standing here, a giant smoky scythe over his shoulder. His red crimson eyes lock onto green emerald ones. "Pathetic." the figure said, making a shiver running up Sonic's spine."
