Laura McAdams, an aspiring singer, and songwriter receives word that the American Idol auditions are slowly approaching. But because of her shyness she has always showed no interest or intent on auditioning. She is constantly told by here friends time, and time again that she should audition. But always politely declines. After losing a bet to Grace (her best friend) she auditions, and meets a boy named Daniel Seavey. But her and Daniel are 15 years old, and after getting to know each other, the two learn that their feelings are more than what they thought. Throughout the competition their feelings grow more, and more. Will Laura be able to make it through the competition, and become the next American Idol? Or will her love for Daniel deter her way from her goal? Can Laura hold onto the music, and the boy? Or will she have to make a decision on loving Daniel, or loving the music. Let's see.
"You're different from what I expected," she said softly.
"How so?" he asked, glancing at her.
"I don't know," she replied, searching for the right words. "You just... have this way of making people feel like they matter. Even here, in this... nightmare."
He was quiet for a moment before responding. "You matter, Y/n. Don't forget that."
