After Cas died, he is reunited with his family in Heaven. He's able to watch over heartbroken Dean, and it kills him. Cas pulls some strings so he's able to talk to Dean again, but at a price. There's two paths your life can take, and now he's taking the other one. He won't remember a thing from the life before, but Cas will. Can he and Dean fall in love again? Or will he forever regret his choice. This is how Supernatural came to be.
