Caprice Turner is one of the only individuals, well besides her older brother, in the Outer Banks that the island can't label. With her mother being Kook and her father being a Pogue, having to straddle both the rich and poor worlds, Capri navigates the complexities of societal expectations with a rebellious edge. Though if you asked her, without hesitation she would say she is a Pogue to the bone. Preferring to stay with her dad on the 'wrong side of the island,' as her mother would put it, she spends most of her days with the Pogues, working at her Dad's surf lesson shop, or what ever odd job she picked up. She doesn't see her brother much anymore, unless her mother forces her to stay at her house, if you ask him he is a Kook down to the bone. He hates her friends and hates that she refuses to accept that she is a Kook too. All she wants is for this summer to be like the rest... Surfing with her friends, hanging with her dad, and causing some trouble. When a sudden storm hits and secrets are unveiled, who is she to turn down an adventure...

Adelaide never planned on moving to the Outer Banks, but when her mom uproots their life for a fresh start, she finds herself in unfamiliar waters - literally. Between learning to surf, juggling a job at the Country Club, and falling in with the wild, reckless Pogues, she's quickly swept up in the chaotic charm of OBX. However, life on the island isn't all sunsets and salt air. Trouble has a name, and it's Rafe Cameron - the dangerous, magnetic Kook King who seems to haunt her every thought unlike any other man before. As Rafe worms his way into Adelaide's world with his untamed smirks and buried darkness, she finds herself torn between resisting his toxic affection or drowning in it. Everyone warns her: nothing good comes from chasing ghosts in Outer Banks. But sometimes, it's the things you run from that find you first. And if you think this is a story where things turn out alright... you'd be dead wrong.
