"It takes a special kind of hubris to attempt to steal a god."

Since the Great Crossing, everything has changed. On that day, two worlds were joined by a tear in the space/time continuum: the Antiquity, a fantastical realm of magic and myriad gods, and the Modernity, a metropolis built on technology. When they met, there was bloodshed, then a restless peace, and then a treaty, ensuring that neither world would overtake the other. But times are changing, and war is on the horizon. And the Modernity wants a god of their own.

In the shadows of the Antique Heights, a neutral zone between the two worlds, a group of unlikely heroes arises: a band of Seven thieves, with one goal - steal and destroy the god-creating technology that the Modernity plans to use in the creation of a weapon of mass-destruction, the likes of which will end with innumerable deaths.

This is the tale of a heist, a family, and an adventure spanning two worlds - led for the fate of both.

It's no secret that some people use their unique gifts to do good, and some use them to do evil. Your classic heroes and villains, if you will. But what about the middle people? The people born with powers, not the kinds that let you fly, or crush cars with your mind, or turn your enemies into puddles of goo before you, the ones that are not quite considered "super". What are they supposed to do? Their powers aren't strong enough to categorize them as hero or villain. Imagine Knife Man or Spoon Girl with the power to control cutlery, do you honestly think they would hold up in a fight against anyone else? Being a superhero without powers is hard enough, being a superhero with a useless super power is damn impossible. Andrew, Carter, and Heather knew that their unique abilities would be worthless if they made themselves full time heroes or villains. Instead, they use their "uselessness" to their advantage. The trio makes their living in their own respected fields, but they come together as the best band of thieves in the world. Nobody would ever suspect three seemingly innocent young adults of 45 high profile theft cases. There is nothing extraordinary about them after all, no crazy hair colors, no fire blasting out of their mouths. It's the perfect cover. When the group steals a valuable, but at the same time worthless, artifact from a museum in Tokyo, they find themselves caught in the crossfire between the National Superhero League and a new super villain on the rise. And since the heroes can't seem to be doing their one job right, the group steps out of the shadows and takes matters into their own hands.

1 part Complete Mature
The first entry in my Thief-Lords of Chiaroscuro series. WARNING: This entry is novella-length and a lot more mature than my usual works as its an homage to cyberpunk and heist stories and features dragons. Contains violence, harsh language, discussion and scenes of pain, torture, imprisonment, sex, exploitation and slavery, most offscreen. Chiaroscuro. Far-flung future home of humanity, a shadow-shrouded city-world of forty billion humans and their bloodthirsty dragon overlords. And of course, home to the infamous thief-lords of the Free Sector. Akio Harper is the fallen son of a privileged family of the floating Stormstratum cities, reduced to scrounging and stealing on the streets of the lowest levels of the endless city of shadow and light. One day in the gods-forsaken Bone Market, he discovers an ancient artifact of flesh-glass that allows him to warp reality and wield immense power. Years later, young Akio has become the Lord of the Hellfire Horde and Master of the Demon's Tower, determined to put an end to the most corrupt of humanity, the crime-lords and the chattel-sellers, the twisted Dark Arcanists and the sadistic draqomorphs who voluntarily converted into creatures more akin to their draconic masters, uncaring as they see their fellow humans shackled and swallowed by monsters. At long last, Akio has a plan to get back at the dragons and stop their plans to truly become gods. Will he and his ragtag crew of oddballs be able to overcome rival gangs, endless security grids and artifacts from before the dawn of time and stop their murderous monster-lords in time?
