An orphaned girl who just wants to save her dying plants. A gangster who has nothing to believe in. A sinister curse. A tale about finding home in someone no saner than yourself... and hoping love survives impossible odds.
* * *
With her parents dead and her relatives facing financial dilemmas, it's either the streets for Raewyn or the risk of being a burden. Thankfully, a guy she's helped one time offers him his place for a surprisingly cheap rent. That should've been enough to make her suspicious, but it wasn't, so now she's forced to deal with the catch: the place is actually owned by someone else, someone she hasn't seen in a long time.
When Travion comes home in the dead of night with one foot in the grave, it's Raewyn's newly manifested healing ability and single-minded determination to help that gives him a lifeline. But Travion has a peculiar ability of his own, and it tells him an ugly truth he's known all these years: kind as this girl in front of him may be, getting involved with her is not going to end well.
Raewyn has to leave, but before she can even find another place to stay, a force of evil stirs from the shadows around them, takes Raewyn's only treasure left, and imposes a curse far worse than death on Travion.
Their only hope lies in an elusive and greatly coveted gemstone, which is said to hold infinite psychic energy. To search for it, Raewyn has to dive with Travion into the treacherous ins and outs of their city's underbelly, where they encounter the worst of humanity.
Ultimately, however, it's the choices they make-and don't-that determine whether they get to the cure first or be corrupted by the madness undoing their world as they know it.
