In late 2023, unknown insects began to swarm the earth. They reproduced and mutated rapidly, leaving devastation in their wake. They ravaged human life, ending the world as we knew it, leaving nothing more than death and destruction. These swarms infected communities, which turned humans savage, violent, and hungry for blood. They desecrated the earth, eroding it into uninhabitable wasteland.

More than three centuries after the insects first invaded, Selene Jackson is living daily life doing administrative work in the underground bunker where she was born and raised. After several years of doing the same menial work, she grows dissatisfied with her life. She finds work tedious and her boyfriend inattentive, slowly beginning to crave experiencing the world outside the bunker.

Eventually, she earns a trial run as a Huntress--a group of inhabitants that traverse outside in search of supplies, survivors, or to remove any threats. Becoming a Huntress means Selene must work closely with her brother's best friend, the notorious Zayn Malik.

When Selene's brother goes missing during an expedition outside the bunker walls, she makes it her mission to find him and bring him back home safely at any cost. This sets her and Zayn off on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, turning both their worlds completely upside down. This upheaval makes them question everything they've ever known, including those they trust the most.
