A boy with ominously red hair lives there as a son of the Cartell's duchy. What nobody knows though is that he, Adam van Cartell, is a former orphan.
Rumors of him circulate among his peers as he participates in the renowned „Royal Selection" where the next generation of Spirit masters are being decided.

While he has to pass ordeals surrounded by eyes of contempt, curiosity and admiration, his thoughts are only directed towards one goal:

Janus Viper was once a handsome king, a cruel ruler that ruled his Kingdom with an iron fist. Even though he had everything he ever wanted since he was born (except, perhaps, love) he taxed his people relentlessly in order to fill his castle with the most beautiful objects, and his parties with the most powerful people. One day, a weak and homeless old man visits Janus, seeking shelter from the storm. Janus turns the man away, repulsed by his appearance, and as punishment, a curse is placed on Janus and his castle. Janus is turned into a monster, with six arms, claws, venomous fangs, and scales covering half of his body. The servants of the castle and all his guests were turned into furniture, as punishment for sitting by and doing nothing while the Prince grew into the cruel King he is today. However, there is a cure for the curse. If Janus can learn to truly love another and be loved in return, the curse will be cured. As the years went by, the castle and everyone in it became forgotten, and Janus lost hope. For who could ever love someone as cold and monstrous as him? Meanwhile, in a small village nearby, a Wizard named Logan Foster is looked down on by his town for his startling intelligence, difficulty in social situations, and his practices of magic. That doesn't deter Roman Prince from attempting to court Logan, however, because even if he is odd, Logan is the most handsome man in the village, and Roman has always enjoyed a challenge. Not wishing for his son to be alone, Patton Foster agrees to give Roman his blessing. Logan, who doesn't wish to get married, runs away from home. He plans to build a cabin in the forest and live the rest of his days there, but instead he finds a castle, where he is invited to stay as a guest. (Yes changing the captive part you're welcome) He isn't sure yet who the Castle's Master is, but based on the talking furniture that allowed him to stay here, he assumes it's a fellow Wizard. The world has been spread in darkness. The streets are empty. The wall that separates the mortal and magical realms is crumbling. ~ In a world cleaved in half, Rhiannon Ashton hunts to protect her family. When her sister is taken beyond the Wall that seperates the Mortal and Magical realms, Rhiannon vows to rescue her sister. As she crosses the wall, Rhiannon realises that nothing is as it seems. The mysterious Queen who rules the Kingdom, rumours of the promised one, a war that will rattle the stars... ~ "Listen to me," He said fiercely. "You know nothing about this place. This place, this is nothing like your mortal world. This is an empire. This is an empire of death. One wrong word, and girl, you will end up in a ditch somewhere, missing your intestines. Right now - your only ally is me. So, you better listen," His voice was contrite with barely controlled anger. "Why are you helping me?" There was only tiredness in my voice. He laughed, humourlessly. "You don't remember me?" He asked softly. I shook my head. "Rezial. You can call me Rezial," He said. He stood, a cloak billowing around him. His eyes were bright spots in the dark. "What happened to... - Was this place always like this?" I said. Rez paused in his stride, turning to face me. "Not always," He said. There was something almost like grief in his voice. He waved his hand again, the plate vanishing. A moment later, the shadows in the room gathered into one spot, the inkiness rising until he was completely covered in darkness that was somehow darker than the rest. The shadows disappeared, and he was gone.

In the realm of Quomared, which occupies the biggest part of the continent, magic is a scarce and precious resource. Fewer and fewer humans are born magic bearers throughout the last decades. Zaretha is the only daughter of the Alsayid, religios leader and grand mage of the country, the most powerful still-living sorcerer on the continent in service of the emperor. She is, however, born empty, magicless, to everyone's disappointment. An attempt at a coup d'etate takes place after her twelfth birthday, and her father is assassinated under mysterious circumstances. An orphan now, she is brought to live in The Priory of the White Stones, a home for girls from families that have or had magic-bearing members. They are schooled to be concubines or wives that a noble family can acquire for their heir, because even if magic-less, they still carry the gene and have a fifty percent chance to bear a magic-yielding child. __________________ Mentions: Please don't copy and all that.
