Wartime in Kalos during the 1968-1984 sends the nation into a period dubbed "The False-Hope Dark Ages" by Historian Micheal Shrew, a Sandshrew from the late 21st century. He claims "During the False-Kantonian War both sides, Kalos and Kanto, were both at fault and we cannot simply just give one side leniency because they were 'better '. It was an issue of the leadership controlling both sides, a war completely unavoidable due to the power at the top. The term False-Hope is derived from the sea of misinformation and propaganda about the war delivered to citizens of both parties. Dark Ages come from the fact there was very little technical advancement even in the face of a war- which usually war is a great contributor to the advancements of a society." When asked about the 50 years after war and what they'd be classified as he responded with: "The timespan of 1985-2035 is usually referred to as the After Ages, The Lost-Hope Era, and Despaired Era. The most commonly used is After Ages. During these times Kalos had gone through years of corruption which only exacerbated the issues of the economy."
