In the far western corner of the world called Antryion, was a land and nation called Hoshikuni, known to be the land of intellect, progress, and most notably, magic. Although governed by the ever so wise Ten Seat Council and protected by the greatest officers of the Murikami Order, everlasting peace continued to be a faint dream to those who knew its history.

Ten years had passed since the Great Rebellion of 347 set Hoshikuni into turmoil. Although they were ultimately defeated, the pain and suffering of the past continued to haunt the people of today. Some learned to accept and move on and hoped for this peace to last longer than the last, while others remained fixated and trapped in the past, choosing to relive through questionable means.

Plot unfolds, secrets unveil, and the lives of those living in Hoshikuni may soon find their world once more flipped upside down.

1,000 years ago, there was a great war between all the countries and nobody, not even the citizens of said country could be trusted. It was the cruelest of all the wars and you could even say that because of it everything was lost to each's arrogance. Out from the rubble of the devastation one person came forward and with their words brought together 9 people. As a collective, they were the light during such dark times and with their knowledge in multiple fields they were able to make a new standing government, one that united the people. It consisted of the ruler known as The Divine, The Counselor of Security, The Counselor of Agriculture, The Counselor of Technology, The Counselor of Education, The Counselor of History, The Counselor of Ecology, The Counselor of Health, The Counselor of Religion, and The Counselor of Economy. Together they were able to rebuild everything and although they had to restart, they never gave up and pushed forward, making the society we know now. As years went by, they got older and decided every 60 years all who turn 18 that year will have to take an exam. Then depending on their knowledge of a certain topic, they will be put into classes and be monitored for 5 years while learning the field of their choosing. With a special section for The Divine, for they had to take all the courses. The only catch would be once you had chosen what you would be studying, you could no longer change it. Anyone could take the places, gender and sexuality were not an issue. When the 5 years are up, 2 students with the highest grades from each section will be chosen, except in the case of The Divine. The work load to support an entire country can be hard on one person so that is why they had chosen to pick two people so that the work was divided, they were on equal footings. This year was when the new candidates were being chosen and it was during my lifetime. Will Mia be able to get through her hardships in one piece or will it be a walk in the park?!

This is the story of one whose destiny was predetermined. This is the story of one who was the victim of circumstance. A victim of a past that was not his own. He learned early to keep his head down, his mouth shut, his eyes up, and his ears open. He learned when to bite his gold and when to not look a gift horse in the mouth. He learned to judge malice from goodness. But nothing could have prepared him for what fate deigned to gift him. Another world; magic; plagues; blood and fire; royalty; and at every corner, lies. Jesse will need more than just power. He will need more than just skills and abilities. He will need help... and contacts. But in this game, who is trustworthy? And who is not? For one whose crime was to be born, to survive is to win.
