"I want you to remember the story I'm about to tell you." This is the story of "The Half-Lives," and it's our story.
An hourglass has become the symbol of a person's inevitable death in this dark and haunting tale, where the sand inside runs out, and Death comes to claim the person whose time has come. People live in constant dread, always looking over their shoulders and wondering if their time has come, as the fear of the hourglass permeates every aspect of life.
There is a glimmer of hope for a few chosen ones, as Mother Nature selects a handful of people called "Chosen" who will compete with each other to save one of their loved ones.
The competition allows people to prove their worth and fight against their inevitable fate, as the story revolves around a girl named Carolina, who watches her 5-year-old sister suffer a half-life seizure, meaning she has lived half of her life and is suddenly enveloped in darkness.
She finds herself as one of the chosen, with a nurse named Daisy and a boy named Archie, and despite her initial annoyance with Archie's teasing, Carolina slowly begins to open up to him and the possibility of a brighter future.
As the story unfolds, we see Carolina navigate the treacherous competition, fighting to save her sister while also grappling with her fears and doubts in this gripping tale of love, loss, and the power of the human spirit to overcome even the most impossible odds.
