"Anybody who would get near her would turn into Icarus that came too close to the sun."

••••

Those monsters conceal themselves behind a mask of normalcy and being good actors to the unsuspecting while hiding their alarming malevolence. The living sometimes possesses more power than the dead because the dead could never be as abhorrent as what the living could do to unwary souls.

Emily would have loved it if the world didn't have those kinds of people walking around as though the world was their oyster. But she couldn't wish for such a thing because she lives with those monsters. They would have smelled the defiance from her if she were to go against them and any signs of independence would result in having them nip that problem in the bud.

They're insane, should be put in a mental hospital or in prison, and they're the devils hiding under normal-looking people.

But Emily still loves her family.

Every crown is a curse, and every heir is a sacrifice, When peace lies in bloody nights what will happen when the her ice cold heart melts in this warm embrace? She was not the woman she appeared to be. Behind those sharp eyes and cold composure was a soul shattered by betrayal and heartbreak. Once, she had known laughter, softness, and trust-but those days were long buried beneath layers of pain and rage. The scars of her past had carved away the girl she used to be, leaving behind a woman with a heart frozen in ice. Trust was a luxury she could no longer afford, and love? Love had become a cruel illusion she no longer believed in. All that remained was a single, burning desire-revenge. It was her fuel, her purpose, and the reason she rose each day with fire in her veins and steel in her gaze. She had become a devil in the eyes of many, but they didn't know the story behind the flames. And then, he came. A man unlike any she had ever known-warm where she was cold, gentle where she was fierce. He saw the thorns and bled willingly just to hold the rose. He didn't flinch at her anger or retreat from her silence. Instead, he embraced her darkness like it was a part of him. To him, she wasn't broken-she was beautiful in ways the world failed to understand. He loved her not despite her demons, but because of them. For the first time in years, she felt the warmth of something unfamiliar-hope. He would give up everything for her: his name, his pride, even his morals. Not because he was weak, but because his love for her was that strong. He didn't want to fix her-he only wanted to hold her, to show her that she didn't have to fight alone.

Becoming Her Dark Side

29 parts Ongoing Mature

They lied to me. My own family. My so-called friends. All of them hiding the truth, that we're tied to the criminal underworld, a forte where my family, the Storms, are the undisputed kings. Then everything falls apart. My dad gets framed. My cousin ends up dead. And the boy I've had a childhood crush on-Nathaniel-turns out to be the one who could destroy me. At least Luke, the one person I shouldn't want, fights to keep me from breaking... but even he has secrets. But it's gets even worse, because now an organization is rising from the shadows, an organization that opposes everything my family stands for. And in a family of warmongers and sociopaths, I stood out as a glaring weakness. The most normal, the most vulnerable, and the most efficient way to end a dynasty that has ruled for centuries. Because what is a throne without an heir, and a crown without its king. So here I am, stuck in a game of blood and betrayal where the only way to survive is to stop being the fragile girl they thought I was. If I have to burn bridges, spill blood, and embrace the monster inside me, then so be it. Because this time, I'm not running from my darkness. I'm becoming it.
