[Fanfiction of Flames of Ember by @normicki. Highly recommended, go read it!]
Born into a noble family serving justice to the Elysian kingdom, becoming the heir to his father's council duties is the least of Aspen Whitlock's interests. Rather, becoming a renowned knight is his topmost priority; one who is highly respected among citizens, whether his peers or those from far and beyond.
However, the path he has chosen is not only filled with disagreements and obstacles but his combat skills, intelligence and tenacity are also put to the test. Sure, he can keep his hopes and determination up high, but those traits are notorious for being short-lived, especially when he must face the strongest swordsman of Elysia, the current third prince.
The catch? There was not a single record of anyone knocking his sword off his grasp.

COMPLETED BOOK I was trained to be a weapon for the kingdom. I was forced into servitude to the King after my family was ripped from me. They're all monsters, except for him...he was my charge and as much as I wanted to hate him, the prince was nothing like his vicious father. He was a warm light in my cold and dark world.
