Veronica Saltzman had never given any thought about how she would die. How her whole life changed the day her mother went missing. Her life was perfect. She had a beautiful mother and was raised by her after her mother left home because she was a teenager when Veronica was born. It was just them for a while since she was only 3, until her mother was in college and met a young Alaric Saltzman. She said she didn't like him at first but then she got to know him and fell in love. They got married after a while and soon after Alaric fully adopted Veronica. He played a big part in raising her and was the only father she knew. Years go by for them as they raised Veronica together lovingly, now its 2007. Veronica is 15 and loving life. She's a cheerleader, she has lots of friends and loves doing activities with them and her family. She's at cheer practice when she gets a call from Alaric. He's devastated to tell her that her mother is missing. It all crashed from there. The beautiful life she had known was ruined with one sentence. Now being 17 and still having not found anything about her mother, who everyone presumed to be dead without finding so much as even her body including her grandparents, has moved on. She tried so hard to find anything, but all she found was dead ends. Even her father cut her out saying to leave it to the police and that all they can do is keep moving forward . That's what her mother would want. That's not true. Her mother would tell her stories of how there was so much in the world that humans believe are fairy tales and spooky stories but are real and living among us, they are just good at hiding. Little does Veronica know, her father knew of it all too well.

She loved how he was gentle with her, how his eyes reflected purity, his heart tenderness. He was dark and his past vengeful. That was what everyone tried to expel.
