The man's grip tightened on the knife pressed against her throat. "You betrayed me," he hissed, the crazed glint in his eyes and unnervingly calm tone sending shivers down her spine. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she pleaded, "It's not how I meant for this to happen. Please, I just wanted to help you." Her voice, almost a whisper, carried the weight of desperation.
