Grandfather Earl, learns of the news that one man of his family has to be drafted into the military due to a war with a rebel army from the southern states, emerging in the horizon. His grandson Ted, young and with a father nowhere to be found; ending up under his loving care, so eager to join. Earl has very little time to do his job but it is in his intentions to make sure Ted would change his mind from joining and plan to live a very long life.

A short but emotional rollercoaster of a  story about a loving grandfather, narrating the early life of his grandchild and his efforts to make sure Ted is reminded as to why he doesn't have to volunteer in fighting a war that exempts him of his duties.
