"The crown prince... is my mate?" My voice barely drifted above my breath, completely refusing to believe my cruel fate.

He suddenly snapped his head in my direction, as if he heard me whispering to myself. Even with the massive distance between us, through a chaotic crowd roaring with bloodlust, his piercing gaze locked onto mine. He stood there, holding the collar of my only remaining friend.

"Pugutan ang halimaw! Pugutan ang halimaw!" the crowd chanted brutally, their voices echoing around the execution stage. In the center, my best friend, Nicholo, knelt in a pool of his own blood, broken and barely able to move.

"F-Feronia..." Nicholo whispered, straining with the absolute last of his strength to find my face in the crowd.

The exact moment I tore my eyes away from the crown prince's terrifying gaze to look at Nicholo, the blade fell-and my best friend was beheaded right before my eyes.
