In the shadow of twilight, where the indigo sea met the golden sands, there stood the coastal town of Breezendra, nestled within the embrace of the Kingdom of Levishore. It was a place where the echoes of the ocean's symphony danced with the salty breeze, whispering tales of a life entwined with the whims of the tempestuous sea.

Breezendra, adorned with weathered cottages, harbored a populace shaped by the rhythmic pulse of the waves. Most were humble fishermen, their weather-beaten faces telling stories of countless voyages upon the azure expanse. Amidst them, a cadre of marines stood vigilant, guardians of the coastal haven, ever watchful for the distant shadows of corsairs on the horizon.

Yet, in Breezendra, the winds of hospitality blew differently. Here, pirates were welcomed, their presence tolerated as long as the storm of trouble did not unfurl upon the unsuspecting town. The heart of this hospitality lay in the Dancing Kraken, a slightly outlawed tavern where rogue waves of laughter crashed against the worn wooden walls. The air was thick with the scent of salted tales and clandestine whispers, and within its confines, the law turned a blind eye.

In this den of revelry, a place beloved by pirates from every corner of the world, a boy named Remi found his footing in the turbulent sands of fate. His ragged attire mirrored the haphazard dance of the coastal winds, revealing a scrawny frame that bore the weight of hardship beyond his years. Unburdened by the traditional muscle of a laborer, his strength was etched in the lines of resilience on his youthful face.

Within the Dancing Kraken, Remi toiled as a cleaner, his presence known to every sailor, marauder, and privateer who sought refuge within its weathered walls. Among them, the Big Tails pirate crew held a particular affinity for the boy, their camaraderie anchored in shared stories and the clandestine charm of the outlawed tavern.

Cass has no memories of her parents, only impossible dreams of waves and orcas and, sometimes, her mother's voice. When she and her adopted aunt return to the Pacific Northwest island--where her parents died twelve years before--Cass hopes the place will trigger long-buried memories. Instead, she discovers that the impossible is real, and that history is about to repeat itself. Unless she can stop it. ***Teaser*** The water hit with such a shock of cold that Cass thought she was going to pedal up and out of it again like some cartoon character. Instead, she flailed and splashed and smashed one arm against a piling as salt water poured into her raincoat & filled her shoes. "How do you like it?" Jason yelled. She spun until she could make out his form, black against gray sky. "What?" she sputtered. She dragged one arm from the water long enough to shove wet hair from her face. Jason became clearer: black hair dark above his yellow raincoat, arms crossed over his chest. "What the hell are you talking about?" "I asked how you like it, going for a swim in this water." She was open-mouthed with disbelief. It was a bad idea; a surge lifted her and slapped salt water into her mouth. Bile burned her throat as she coughed and all the while she was still flailing at the water, fighting the drag of shoes and clothes to keep afloat. She should kick them off-that's what you were supposed to do if you fell into the ocean with your clothes on-but she was only a dozen feet from the dock. Besides, it was her only coat. Jason watched her the way she'd watch a barracuda. "I know you're following me." "Following you?" What. The. Hell. She gave a mighty kick and tossed her coat onto the dock. Jason just stood there. "I nearly drowned last week, you know that? Now you show up as if nothing happened." "Last week," Cass said slowly, "I was in Argentina." Whatever he'd seen, it wasn't her.

Will be updated with a weekly chapter on Sundays! Synopsis: The story follows a young boy named Jonah, born into a city-state of "The One," the foremost religion of Life-Winder's world. Jonah is at an age wherein every child of Giroux must select a career field to be trained in, some of which come with the dissemination of a "gift"-special powers bestowed by the remains of Saints of the One, and antithetic to "dark powers" sourced from a ritual through which a person must carve a mark into their forehead. When Jonah generates a dark power and mark without having undergone such a ritual, the course of his life is altered indefinitely. Initially placed under guard by two knights of Giroux, they will eventually find themselves in a small fort made-town for a single purpose: to retrieve the body of a Saint who has since passed. The town, once devoted followers of The One, was abandoned by Giroux years back when the neighboring city-state of Rashaad attacked. The Saint protected them, and acted as a deterrent for the years that followed. When Rashaad receives word of his death, the knights are put in an ethical quandary: do they abandon the town and its people to certain death like Giroux had prior? Or do they disobey orders, stand their ground, and fight an army with what little they have? A key element of the plot is a mystery that brews in the background of the pages. Years before the events of Life-Winder, the court jester for the King of Giroux was sent as a diplomat to the neighboring kingdom of Rashaad, where he was burned beyond recognition and sent back. Giroux's king, glad to have his fool return, requested a performance of his servant who, preferring death to living as he were, decides instead to insult his king at the cost of his tongue. These events set to motion a period of decay for the kingdom at large, over which the Jester sapped the health and sanity from the king, and at the present extent of which Jonah's story begins.

Decades. He'd wasted decades of his life doing what? Chasing the minuscule sparks of passion to ease the aching void in his chest? Wasn't there something better? Someone to guide him away from the misery? Distract him from the life he couldn't escape from? There were days he didn't know which way was up and where the sea began. Where the skies collided with the dirt and delved into the inferno of the hells. The whispers of creatures that should have had no interest in a mortal caressing the shell of his ears. Beings he believed to be just as mortal as himself and if one observed their flaws they might have been. Walking the city grounds and sailing the oceans as easily as anyone. Blockades of fire and ice prevented their hands from intertwining. Now he balanced atop the wall. Grabbing both with shaky arms and keeping them close. Please don't leave. Fangs and claws used to claim him. Gentle kisses and caresses to calm him. Breathless words pulled him deeper into the madness. Further into inky darkness speckled with blinding light. Granting him everything he never knew he'd wanted. A dream come reality. Strange how love could spark from pain. How fickle. And how much he only wanted more. ((Heelloooo, thanks for clicking. :3 Its been quite a bit since I've written anything but I wanted to try something new. I just like watching you squirm." "Oh that's a hobby of yours? Making girls squirm in agony of having to speak to you?" She was so fed up with him. "Well..." He mumbled, walking to an old portrait and running his finger along the dusty rim of it, "Making them squirm, period, is a particular interest of mine." "You're pathetic." She barked. He walked up to her, a few feet away from her body. "Say that again..." He hummed, in a faint whisper. "You're. Pathetic." She sharply cursed. He smirked, devilishly. "No Writt," Cas stepped into her space, nose inches away from hers, he took his right hand and dragged it up her thigh, "Virgins... are pathetic." He finished the sentence at her hipbone. Lily's breath caught as he ran it up her leg, she didn't like physical touch. From anyone. So why on Marine, did it feel so good, so right, when he did?

"What do you want?" I snap, slamming my locker shut. His casual smirk, messy dark hair, tan skin, strong arms, eerie storm-grey eyes... the list could go on of things I notice- that I shouldn't notice- about him. "Oh, I want a lot of things." He inspects a speck of dirt on his arm. "I'm sure you've heard the news?" His eyes flicker back up to meet mine. Does he know? No. He can't. So I roll my eyes. He can't know that I know, that I would do anything to be the first one he tells. "You'll have to be more specific." I mutter, trying to look casual as I inspect my nails. "Well, it involves a certain title of the swim team," He offers. I shrug. "So you got captain. That's cool. And what do I have to do with that?" He narrows his eyes, trying to read my expression. Unfortunately for him, I have mastered the art of hiding my emotions. "This is what I wanted to talk to you about. During English," He fiddles with his sweater sleeve. "I recall you trying to talk to me," I frown. "Well, I..." He swallows, seeming... nervous? "I'm not doing too great... subject wise. And if I don't pick up my ass soon, I might be forced to quit." He rubbed the back of his neck, making his shirtsleeve slide up his arm to reveal a strong bicep. Not that I notice. I narrow my eyes. "And what do I get back in return?" I cross my arms. I'm going to be late for the bus if we don't hurry. He studies my face. "Name your price." He mirrored my position. I sigh. Money... but I don't need it. Popularity... but I don't want it. I meet his gaze steadily. He lifts his chin, the tiniest bit, but it doesn't intimidate me. I square my shoulders and stand up straight. He's only just taller than me.
