The Second World War is ravaging Europe leaving alarm, confusion and destruction behind. This story, based in France and England during the 1940’s, is the story of a young French girl who after the death of her father in the invasion of France in 1940, followed by the death of her mother in an accident the following year joined the Forces Françaises de l’Intérieur to fight to free her country from the German oppresser. It explores the friendships and relationships that she experiences during the course of Second World War. The choices she has to make and the terrible heartbreak that she suffers along the way. Whilst the characters are fictional, though their personalities are loosely based on my friends, the majority information is factual.

Included on Wattpad's HistoricalFiction World Wars reading list. - * - * - * - Being in the French Resistance wasn't what Alice Klein envisioned her life looking like. She'd wanted a husband and a flat in Paris, and maybe a cat with a pink bow who would sleep on her piano. But bullets didn't discriminate between male or female, young or old. Alice knew that better than most. As a half-German, half-French Jew, it seemed no matter where she went, she was hated. To the German army or Vichy France, she was a traitor. To any uneducated Allied soldier, her last name screamed Nazi. When the Maquis heard of the Allies looking for connections to the French Resistance, they'd quickly offered up Alice as a multilingual translator and Underground liaison. Whisked away from the French Alps, she arrived to the States to train as a paratrooper, knowing that failure was not an option no matter how much she disliked it. Lucky for her, she didn't just find barracks and training grounds in America. She found men, and in them, family to replace the one she'd lost. - * - WARNINGS for realistic depictions of world war ii, strong language, era-typical sexism, era-typical anti-semitism, alcohol abuse, cigarette abuse, past sexual assault - * - * - * - Pairing: mostly gen, way down the line it's eventual Lewis Nixon/OC BOOK ONE in [ A Tale of Two Heritages ] Start Date: December 5, 2019 End Date: March 24, 2020 Final Word Count: 150,786 Cross-posted to FFN and Ao3 - * - * - * - #1 in World War Two, #1 in Band of Brothers, #1 in Feminist, #1 in 1940s, #1 in Lewis Nixon FIRST PLACE: Cherry Blossom Awards 2020, Writer's Glory Awards 2020 THIRD PLACE: Historical Fiction in Spice Off Award, Fanfiction in Majestic Inc. Those things which are precious are saved only by sacrifice." - Stephen E. Ambrose, Band of Brothers - * - * - * - War never changes, but who you fight alongside does. In 1942, Alice Klein left the French Maquis to assist the American's paratrooper corps. She lost everything to the Nazis when she left: her family, her country, and her friends. But she gained Easy Company. Alice and the rest of Easy Company have been through six long months of combat already. They've seen friends die. But they're about to enter the toughest months yet. December in Bastogne brings trench foot, artillery barrages, and snipers. It brings frostbite and stupid mistakes. And above all, D-Day + 193 brings death. As the war drags on, Alice must face hard truths about what it means to be a German Jew. Events from 1942 come to light which force her to rethink everything she knew about her family's fate. As it turned out, Germans were the first victims of the Nazi party. Thankfully, Alice doesn't have to face it alone. While some faces disappear forever, others become closer than she could have ever imagined. Because though war never changes, who you fight it with does. - * - * - * - Pairing: Lewis Nixon/OC BOOK TWO in [ A Tale of Two Heritages ] Start Date: March 24, 2020 End Date: May 11, 2020 Word Count: 139,901 Cross-posted to FFN and Ao3 - * - * - * - THIS CONTAINS realistic depictions of world war ii, realistic depictions of the holocaust, strong language, major character death, cigarette abuse, alcohol abuse
