"What?! What could be so important, that it's worth leading the Bergen right to us?!" His harsh whisper cuts through the air, brushing across my skin. "The Bergen is gone!" I try to reason with him, but he dismisses my words like they're nonsense. "You don't know that! It could still be out there!" my eyes widen alongside his, absorbing every flicker of expression on his face. "No.. it left. And that's why I'm here to ask you.. Will you travel to BergenTown with me and save everyone?"
"What! No!" He pushes up to his feet and crosses his arms over his chest, stone-faced. "Branch?! You can't say no, they're your friends-"
"Ah! They're your friends, Juniper! I'm stayin' right here in my bunker, where it is safe." I let out a short, stunned huff. "Oh, that's rich. You're the one guy who knows more about Bergens than anyone. But when we finally need you. You just wanna hide in here forever?!"
"Forever?" He chuckles, just barely, struggling to keep up the cold front. "No." Then, without warning, he pulls a lever. The ground beneath us begins to lower, the platform sinking slowly into the floor. "I only have enough supplies down here to last me ten years. Eleven, if I'm willing to store and drink my own sweat. Which I am! You all said I was crazy huh? Well who's crazy now?" My eyes flick back and forth, adjusting to the size of the space we're entering. He leans against the lever, finishing his speech with that same wild tone. "Me. Crazy prepared."
